A short Winter tyre history lesson
Avon Tyres here in the UK had a good range
Of winter tyres just as they have today. I can remember that two of the most modern cars were, of course, the Mini and the Mini Cooper. These cars were good in snowy conditions, but the tyre manufacturers started to bring out winter tyres for these little cars, something to do with the fact that these cars were doing very well in rallying.
Avon Tyres brought out a tyre
that was going to become familiar with mini owners, known as the “Arctic Winter range” These came out originally in the 145x10 tyre size, but as the wheels were becoming wider, there was a version in the 165/70x10 tyre size. Avon also makes a modern-day winter tyre range known as the “Avon Ice Touring ST” range of tyres, which come in many sizes.
Winter tyres can now be stored in our winter tyre hotel.
This enables you to have your summer or winter tyre stored when not in use. Consequently, there is a small charge for the tyres that have been removed and fitted. Ask at the reception for advice, it makes sense!
